Saybrook Residents, Visitors: Your Input is Needed

The town’s Parks & Recreation Commission and the advisory committee for Mariner’s Way revitalization are asking residents and visitors to tell them how and where they seek recreation and leisure activities. An online public survey is posted on the Town of Old Saybrook’s homepage at www.oldsaybrookct.org through the month of August.

Both town residents and visitors are encouraged to participate.

For the Parks & Recreation Commission, the information collected from the survey’s responses will inform the commission as it develops its 2017 Strategic Plan.

Parks & Recreation Assistant Director Jonathan Paradis said that computer terminals were set up in the lobby of the Parks & Recreation building to allow those entering to fill out the survey online there.

“The survey results will help guide us about what the community needs and wants with respect to recreation and future recreation facilities,” said Paradis.

For the Mariner’s Way revitalization advisory committee, the survey’s responses will help gauge community demand for new recreation and entertainment venues and services that might find a home in a revitalized Mariner’s Way district.

In this survey design, the term “recreation” is viewed broadly to include organized and individual sports and recreation opportunities as well as leisure activities like arts and entertainment, shopping, and beach use.

Respondents are asked to record their age bracket and the recreational activity types they pursue by traveling out of town and at what frequency. The goal is to identify gaps in recreational opportunities the town currently provides and what it could provide, based on unmet demands.

Survey results will be collated and ready to report to the public in September.
