Clinton Republicans Announce Slate; Primary Challenge Possible


The Republican Town Committee selected its slate of candidates on July 20 for the November election, led by incumbent Bruce Farmer for first selectman. Farmer was endorsed along with current Republican selectmen John Giannotti and Carol Walter, however, the possibility of a primary challenge may alter the ballot.

Maurice “Kirk” Carr has said that he has obtained the petition needed to have a primary on Sept. 12. Carr is running for first selectman, while Phil Sengle is going to try to force a primary for the Board of Selectman. Carr is currently an alternate on the Board of Finance and Sengle serves on the Board of Police Commissioners.

In an email, Carr said, “The 10.2 percent tax hike has folks up in arms and very receptive to an alternative. We will see what happens Sept. 12.”

For the Board of Education, the RTC nominated incumbents Doug Traynor and Todd Pozefsky to run again. Pozefsky was also nominated to run for the town treasurer.

On the Board of Finance, the candidates are Tom Hollinger and Gary Bousquet. Bousquet currently serves on the Planning & Zoning Commission.

Kim Neri Simoncini and Dom Morelli were nominated for to be the candidates for the Board of Police Commissioners. Neri Simoncini is currently on the board.

Carl Neri and James Staunton are running for the Board of Assessment Appeals, while Chris Aniskovich is running as the alternate. Neri is an incumbent and Aniskovich is on the Planning & Zoning Commission.

For the Planning & Zoning commission, the RTC nominated Adam Moore, Michael Huges, and Drew Richards. Moore is currently on the commission. Ed Alberino, a current full member, declined the nomination to be the alternate. Mark Richards was nominated to run for the Zoning Board of Appeals, where he currently serves as chairman. Current alternate Jay Ciarleglio will run again for the alternate on Zoning Board of Appeals.

The DTC will hold its caucus on Monday, July 24.
