Nicole Luongo Named May Youth of the Month

The Exchange Club of Madison recently honored Nicole Luongo, the daughter of Anthony and Deidre Luongo, with the David Bell Scholarship Award for May 2017 Youth of the Month. The Daniel Hand High School senior was nominated by the DHHS faculty and completed a competitive application consisting of an essay entitled “Inspiring a Community to Become a Better Place,” performing outstanding DHHS and community activities, earning an excellent grade-point average, and receiving awards.

The Exchange Club of Madison Chairman of Youth of the Month and Year Programs, David Bell, presented Nicole with a $200 award and a commemorative plaque. Nicole is a high honors student, member of the National Honor Society, and captain of the Varsity Soccer Team. She’s also active as a member of the “Encore” Capella Music Group; Show Choir Vocal Captain that took fifth place in the 2016 nationals in Chicago; writer for the Hand student newspaper; and a volunteer for Relay For Life-Branford, TOPS Soccer, Yale New Haven Smilow Cancer Hospital, and Scranton Library.

Nicole has received “The Helping Hand” Award, Holyoke Book Award, and the DHHS English, History, Spanish, and Music Awards. After considering offers from Brown, NYU, Colgate, UConn, and Middlebury, Nicole has accepted the offer to attend McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.
