Familiar Faces, New Location for Clinton Farmer’s Market

On Thursday, July 13, the Clinton Farmer’s Market will return for the season in a new location on the lawn of the Henry Carter Hull Library, located at 10 Killingworth Turnpike. The market will run every Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. through Aug. 31.

Why the library?

Market manager Sarah Borgnis-Tobin, also the adult programing coordinator at the library, has been involved with the farmer’s market since 2014 and noted several advantages of the new site over the former location across from Andrews Memorial Town Hall.

Borgnis Tobin noted the library is conveniently located near exit 63, where visitors already get off to visit the Clinton Crossing Outlets. In addition, the library has more parking and, since the market is at the library, Borgnis-Tobin said the library is “also a location where if inclement weather strikes they can bring vendors inside.”

Any profit made off vendor registration at the end of the season is donated to the Families Helping Families charity.

With vendor registration still ongoing, Borgnis-Tobin wasn’t yet able to provide an accurate count for vendors in 2017, but she promised that some of the vendors who have that signed up are “fan favorites.”

“We have all local vendors; nothing is brought in off a truck,” said Borgnis-Tobin.

Among the confirmed vendors attending in 2017 are Sanremo Bakery, Shannon’s Jammin’, and Big Baby’s Pop Shop, a handmade ice pop maker.

In addition to the market, the library will host a variety of events that market patrons can take advantage of before or after browsing the market. On July 20, local musician Brian May will play acoustic music while the market is going on. While there are no other concerts planned, the library does have other events planned such as movie matinées complete with popcorn, a child’s room with toys, a teen room, and a relaxation station to learn wellness techniques.

“There’s lots of great things available,” Borgnis-Tobin said.

Vendor spots are still available; those interested can contact Borgnis-Tobin by calling 860-669-2342.
