Town Meeting Actions in Old Saybrook

At the Town Meeting of June 12, electors voted unanimously to approve both action items on the call.

Approved was a request by the town to endorse two applications from local non-profits to the State’s Department of Revenue Services for tax credits under the Neighborhood Assistance Act. The tax credits, if approved by the state, would yield funding to pay for each group to install energy conservation improvements at their respective facilities.

The Connecticut Sports Foundation Against Cancer’s application was for $150,000 in state tax credits to defray the cost to install energy efficient windows and doors at the non-profit’s new headquarters on North Main Street.

The application from the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center was for $150,000 in tax credits to start replacing the high intensity lights that illuminate the stage during shows with new energy-efficient lights based on LED technology.

The town would not incur any financial liability as a result of either endorsement.

The second action of the call was to approve the sale of a single-family dwelling house and lot known as 185 Bokum Road for $200,000. The property’s ownership transferred to the Town of Old Saybrook with the purchase on April 30, 2015 from the Trust for Public Land of land referred to as The Preserve. The land was sold through the process of public auction to the current occupant of the house, Chris Reed.

There being no further business on the call, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
