On April 9, three Parliamentary Debate teams traveled to Yale University for the annual Rollin G. Osterweis Debate Tournament. Valley teams competed through four rounds and had some substantial wins. They did not break into the final four. The Osterweis is a free tournament for Connecticut high school students to experience the collegiate style of parliamentary debate. Debates focused on issues familiar to the average student, including American and international politics, ethics, and justice. Fifteen minutes prior to each round, Yale would announce a resolution. Teams were randomly assigned sides and had 15 minutes to prepare. Members of the Yale Debate Association, the most successful team in North America and the fourth-ranked team in the world, judged rounds.
