For the 11th time, Guilford High School physics students have come in first in state-wide competition at the annual TEAMS (Test in Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) challenge at the University of New Haven. This year’s theme was “Engineering the Environment.” The GHS team received the top score for their essay written in advance about seaweed use for energy production. The students then answered 40 computational questions and constructed a mechanical arm to carry a bottle of water from one end of a table to another. These three elements combined to give them the top score in the State of Connecticut and top three in the country.

The national TEAMS competition takes place in Orlando, Florida from June 21 to 25. And, although all but one of the GHS team members will have just graduated from high school, all are committed to competing together one last time for the national title.
