The Morgan School’s Top 10 for 2017

Leading up to graduation on Tuesday, June 13, The Morgan School has released its list of top 10 students in the Class of 2017.

1) Julia Horan, Valedictorian

Julia Horan, daughter of Christopher and Christen Horan, has been an active leader in the STEP and Advisory Mentoring programs, as well as the new Husky Leadership initiative. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society. Horan, co-founder and first-alto in the Morgan Sax Quartet, is a four-year concert band member, and has represented Morgan in the Connecticut Shoreline Music Festival Honors Band for three consecutive years.

As co-captain of the Morgan fencing team, Horan concluded the 2016-2017 season with a 4th place victory at the Connecticut State High School Individual Championships, earning First Team All-State. She has twice achieved USA Fencing National All-Academic Team recognition and was awarded the USA Fencing National All-Academic Scholarship.

Horan has enjoyed volunteer work as an assistant religious education teacher at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation, as a volunteer fencing director for state JV and Novice tournaments, and as an assistant instructor at Clinton Parks and Recreation summer fencing camps.

Horan is excited to attend the University of Connecticut in the fall as a member of the Honors Scholar Program.

2) Sam Moran, Salutatorian

Sam Moran, son of Aidan and Maria Moran, is the captain of the Morgan boy’s tennis team and the High School Bowl team. He is a member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. He is also a part of Clinton’s Troop 55 and an eagle scout.

Sam will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall to study mechanical engineering.

3) Sam Dailey

Sam Dailey is a member of National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society. He has played tennis all four years at Morgan and is a captain alongside Sam Moran. He has helped with the annual Haunted Hallways at Morgan.

Dailey likes to play music and enjoys the outdoors, movies, and professional basketball and football.

He will attend the University of Connecticut as a biomedical engineering major.

4) Karla Nikolle Rivadeneira

Karla Nikolle Rivadeneira, the daughter of Maverik and Lorena Rivadeneira, is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and the Morgan Chorus. She was last seen on stage as Dolly Levi in the school’s production of Hello Dolly. She is also the secretary of her class.

Rivadeneira has been an active member of St. Mary’s Church participating as a volunteer and singing in the Spanish choir. She has also participated in multiple Clinton Family Theatre productions. Rivadeneira was a part of the 2016 CMEA All-State Choir and the 2017 CMEA Southern Region Choir.

Rivadeneira will attend the University of Connecticut this fall to major in Spanish language education and minor in music.

5) Alexandra Church

Alexandra Church, the daughter of Wayne and Cheryl Church and proud sister of Sydney and Shelby Church, is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. She is also the creator of the Hiking Club, member of the Environmental Club, REACT, and Autism Awareness.

Alex has competed on Morgan’s Volleyball team for four years, ran track and played on the boy’s golf team, both for three years. She has been volunteering for the Clinton Shellfish Commission, taking water samples and helping with projects in the Clinton Harbor.

Alex will be attending either University of Alabama or University of North Carolina at Wilmington this fall to study oceanography.

6) Jenna Morello

Jenna Morello, the daughter of Angelo and Jessica Morello, is the co-founder and co-president of the Autism Awareness Club. Jenna is also the vice-president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Spanish National Honor Society. Morello was a part of the indoor as well as outdoor track team at Morgan. She ran cross country track for three years and became a captain her senior year. Throughout high school, Morello has volunteered at the Yale New Haven Hospital, the Clinton Community Garden, Joel Sports-a-Thon, and other community events. Morello will enroll in the nursing program at either the University of Connecticut or Sacred Heart University in the fall.

7) Shannon Maher

Shannon Maher, the daughter of Daniel and Pamela Maher, is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. She has been active in Autism Awareness, the Hiking Club, and the Kindness Club.

Maher has participated in soccer, basketball, and track all four years of high school. Her senior year she was captain for all three sports. Throughout high school, she has been a part of the Connecticut State Referee Program and has worked at Lenny and Joe’s Fishtale in Madison for the past two years.

Maher will attend the University of Delaware this fall to major in nursing.

8) Amanda LaRiviere

Amanda LaRiviere, the daughter of Michael and Laura LaRiviere, is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the French National Honor Society. She is also chief editor of The Morgan PawPrint and a member of Autism Awareness, and has been involved with the National GRACE Foundation.

LaRiviere has played volleyball at Morgan for four years. She is currently completing her second year of being a unified athlete for the Special Olympics.

LaRiviere will attend the University of Sydney this fall and continue her studies at Northeastern University to major in journalism.

9) Zach McCray

Zach McCray, the son of Mark and Christine McCray, is a member of the Morgan football, lacrosse, and indoor track teams as well as a member of the Spanish National Honor Society. McCray is also a member of the High School Bowl team and the Morgan Band. He has played football and lacrosse since 5th grade and is a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic church. He also works with Clinton Park and Rec on Saturdays.

McCray will attend Penn State University; he is undecided on his major.

10) Lindsay Harden

Lindsay Harden, the daughter of Dave and Lisa Harden and the sister to Faith Harden, has throughout high school been involved in Student Council and is the president of the National Honor Society. She is also on the golf team and has enjoyed spending her past two summers as a camp counselor.

Harden will attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a nursing major with aspirations to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.
