The Madison Lions Club honored Michael Piccione as its 2017 Public Service Award recipient on April 19. Piccione was recognized for his work in support of veterans. As a member of the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council, Piccione was the catalyst in initiating the Operation American Soldier (OAS) Patriotic Knights Project whose objective is to ship items to active duty military in war zones so they can enjoy a taste of home. This project is now in its seventh year, and with support from local service clubs, religious organizations, and businesses, has grown significantly.

This recognition event took place at the Maritime Grille in Guilford, and was attended by Piccione’s wife and children in addition to Frank Kling who introduced Piccione. The club’s program chair for the event was Lion Don Williams. The Madison Lions have honored a worthy local public servant annually since 1969.
