At its April meeting, the Branford Economic Development Commission presented The Owenego with its Business Recognition Award. In operation since 1847, The Owenego was one of the first resort hotels on the Connecticut shoreline and was among the preeminent waterfront resorts that graced Branford’s shoreline from the late 19th- through the mid-20th centuries, attracting a guest list of legendary artists, writers, actors, and politicians. As the last of its kind, “The O” is family-owned and operated by the third generation, and today serves as inn, beach, and tennis club, and as a historic and picturesque venue for corporate retreats and celebrations, weddings, anniversaries, reunions, civic, social and fundraising events such as Camp Rising Sun and the Hammerfest Triathlon, and as a popular spot for locals during the summer season for the O’s “light bites” and a cocktail or two.
