Quarry Concerns in East Haven Tabled to May 18

Some East Haven residents have begun to raise concerns over a quarry on Barberry Road in East Haven. The issue is that the quarry has allegedly begun cutting trees on the property without pulling the proper permits.

According to Joe Carfora, a resident of East Haven who is building a home in the area, said the quarry has continued to do work on the property despite a cease and desist letter from the town.

Carfora said the property is a watershed area, and the Regional Water Authority is concerned about the tree removal because of potential environmental issues such as soil erosion.

Carfora and other residents were hoping to have a public hearing about the topic at the April 20 Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, but that discussion was tabled until the Thursday, May 18 meeting to allow the board more time to review the information.
