Guilford Votes “Yes” at Budget Referendum


The Guilford 2017-’18 fiscal year budget was approved at referendum on April 18 with a total of 2217 “Yes” votes to 1033 “No” votes.

The approved fiscal year 2017-’18 budget is $95,188,169, an increase of $1,752,486 or 1.88 percent in spending. The Board of Education operating budget is $58,650,136, an increase of $743,345 or 1.28 percent in spending. The town operating budget comes to $28,658,999, a $586,320 or 2.09 increase in spending. Debt service for the coming fiscal year is at $7,879,034, an increase of 5.67 percent over last year.

In addition, the voters approved all six bonding requests on the ballot. In total, the approved bonding is about $7 million.

First Selectman Joe Mazza, who just completed his last budget process as a town official, said he was pleased with the referendum result and the voter turnout.

“It is fantastic that we had such a huge win for the budget and all six [bonding] questions,” he said. “I thank the voters for coming out and showing their support.”
