Residential Fire Claims a Life in North Haven

A fire at a home on the corner Ridge Road and Cooper Road claimed the life of the homeowner, 84-year-old Lucille Brunelli.

According to a press release from the Police Department, police and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene at 8:32 p.m. on March 18. According to a release from the Fire Department, personnel arrived and found heavy fire in the rear of the house.

Firefighters began an aggressive interior search for occupants while simultaneously initiating fire suppression efforts. Brunelli was found and pronounced deceased by personnel on the scene.

In a follow-up release by the Fire Department, The Connecticut Medical Examiner’s office ruled that the cause of death was due to smoke inhalation. It was noted in the release that the presence of smoke detectors in the home was not adequate, and it was unclear if the victim was alerted to the fire.

Fire crews investigated the cause of the fire, and found that it started in the kitchen area. However, the release stated that due to extensive damage and numerous heat sources, the exact cause of the fire may never be determined.
