Essex Notes

At the March 15 Board of Selectmen meeting, the board voted to allocate $5,000 to continue to participate in the state’s electronic document management system. Essex was originally chosen as one of the towns to participate in a pilot project to assess the effectiveness of the system. Continuing as part of the system, First Selectman Norm Needleman called the system “a good idea that really pulls things together.” The system computerizes all town records and documents, making them instantly accessible when needed.

The selectmen also announced interested in finding two Essex residents who would like to serve on the board of the Tri-Town Youth Services Bureau. Those interested may contact Needleman at the First Selectman’s Office in Town Hall, 860-767-4340 ext. 114.

Needleman also said the total proposed town budget increase for 2017-’18, though numbers are not yet final, would be less than 1.5 percent. He praised the process that led up to the creation of the budget, describing it as efficient, professional and non-political.

The next scheduled meeting of the Board of Selectmen is April 5 at 5 p.m. in Essex Town Hall.
