Stolen Vehicle Leads to East Haven Crash


A 14-year-old juvenile from New Haven will face charges for allegedly stealing a vehicle from a family member.

According to a press release, an officer for the East Haven Police Department responded to a stolen motor vehicle complaint on Thompson Avenue at approximately 3:23 a.m. on March 22. The officer observed a gray Honda, matching the description of the stolen vehicle, stopped at a red light at a nearby intersection without its headlights on.

The officer attempted to advise the driver that the headlights were off, but the driver reportedly sped off when the officer signaled him to roll down his window. The vehicle crashed into a telephone pole near 503 Main Street, causing downed wires.

According to the release, the officer noticed the driver of the vehicle needed medical attention, and was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for minor injuries. The driver has since been released from the hospital.
