In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the 20th Read Across America Day, state representatives Jesse MacLachlan (R-35) and Devin Carney (R-23) recently paid a visit to students at Daisy Ingraham Elementary School. The annual event is celebrated on Dr. Seuss’s birthday to teach children the importance and joy of reading.

Reps. MacLachlan and Carney read to kindergarten students in Mrs. Konrad and Mrs. Blackwell’s class, as well as 4th graders in Mrs. Kristin Parkhurst and Mrs. Sara Salerno’s class. The legislators read books by a number of authors, including Dr. Seuss, and challenged the students to read every day.

Read Across America Day was established by the National Education Association in 1997 and has become the largest reading event in the country. For more information, visit www.nea.org/readacross.
