Matthew O’Keefe, a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 13, Chester, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 30, 2016. He held his Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the Deep River Town Hall Auditorium on Dec. 4, 2016.

O’Keefe completed his Eagle Scout project at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, where he constructed a path connecting the lower and upper portions of the cemetery. He also added a garden and fence to beautify the area. In addition to his project, O’Keefe has earned 33 merit badges, has served as troop assistant senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster, and is set to earn the Silver Eagle Scout Palm award before graduating, an honor bestowed on fewer than 250 scouts nationwide each year.

O’Keefe is currently a senior at Valley Regional High School in Deep River.
