Progress Pauses on Westbrook Parking Plan

Snow and cold weather has stalled further progress on the town project to build a new public parking lot in Town Center.

The first major task of the project is to install a culvert through which the stream at the site’s eastern edge will flow. To prepare for this work, silt fencing was installed along the stream’s edge to prevent stream edge erosion that would send dirt and sediment into the stream. The next step would be to install the culvert sections. By press time, the concrete culvert sections had not yet arrived on site.

If weather permits, the next task will be to install a culvert. Once this task is completed, the site can be graded.

Xenelis Construction is the contractor for the town project to build the 27-space lot on Route One at Knothe Road. The firm was the low bidder at $331,141.

Tasks not completed during the winter months will be finished in the spring, including installation of decorative lighting, granite curbs, and installation of plantings included in a landscaping plan prepared by Kathy Connolly.
