The Guilford Preservation Alliance has awarded Dr. Richard Lewis of 29 Broad Street a $5,000 grant toward historic preservation of the bowling alley located in the far rear of his property. The Gothic bowling alley was added by the original owner of the property, Simeon Chittenden, to his ancestral home named Cranbrook after the town in Kent, England, from which his ancestors hailed. The bowling alley was part of the Chittenden’s summer estate and was originally part of 1 Broad Street, but now belongs to 29 Broad Street.
