Coffee With A Top Cop

Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran and members of his Command Staff met with senior residents from Branford's Senior Center on Nov. 22 for coffee and a time when he could share information about the department.

The meeting was in part, due to the department's Coffee With A Cop outreach program that focuses on listening to public's concerns and sharing information.

The group of about 15 residents arrived at the Police Department at 12:30 p.m., mostly by bus. They were escorted to the Department's Roll Call Room where the Chief gave an hour-long presentation concerning the mission and operation of the agency.

The presentation included information about the agency and crime statistics and how it department allocates its resources. At the end of the discussion, the chief answered a number of citizen questions and addressed many of their concerns.

One of the residents expressed her concern for the safety of the officers, in light of the number of officers being assaulted and killed across America. She said, "I'm concerned for their safety, I think their patrol cars should have bulletproof windows." The Chief commended her for her concern and explained the limitations of a normal police vehicle.

 "I always enjoy meeting with our seniors," said Chief Halloran. "It's a time for us to share valuable information and for us to truly understand their concerns and fears. As a result, we will do everything we can to protect their quality of life."
