Food Collection Helps Feed Those in Need

On Saturday, Nov. 12, "Give A Cop The Bird"  (aka frozen turkey) and other donated non-perishable food to help Branford Police support Branford Food Pantry and Community Dining Room in helping feed those in need during the holidays.

Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran is challenging residents to "Give A Cop The Bird" this Saturday, November 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, which is in its second year, is held in cooperation with Branford Big Y, 1075 West Main Street and benefits Branford Food Pantry and Community Dining Room.

Branford Police officers and Big Y staff will be in front of the Branford store collecting donated frozen turkeys and non-perishable food from the public, trying to gather enough to fill a police van.

Last year, officers and Big Y employees collected over 160 frozen turkeys and hundreds of pounds of canned goods from shoppers for the holiday season.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for our officers, working together with the management and staff at Big Y and our community, to collect turkeys and food that will benefit the less fortunate in our community. We are very grateful to Big Y for their support and commitment to our community and our citizens for their generous support." said Chief Halloran.
