Branford Veterans Day Parade Nov. 6


The Branford Veterans Parade Committee invites residents to show their support of military veterans by attending Branford’s Veterans Day ceremonies at the Cenotaph on the Town Green at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, immediately followed by Branford’s 2016 Veterans Day Parade. Branford American Legion Post 83 Commander Richard Dunn, a decorated U.S. Marine veteran, wil be Parade Grand Marshal and will also give the keynote address at the 1 p.m. ceremony. The Branford Veterans Parade Committee invites residents to show their support of military veterans by attending Branford's Veterans Day ceremonies at the Cenotaph on the Town Green at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, immediately followed by Branford's 2016 Veterans Day Parade.

Branford American Legion Post 83 Commander Richard Dunn, a decorated U.S. Marine veteran, will be Parade Grand Marshal and will also give the keynote address at the 1 p.m. ceremony. The Cenotaph is located behind Town Hall on the town green. Rain location will be the Branford High School gymnasium, 185 East Main St. at 1 p.m.

Other ceremonies planned for the day include veterans and military at a 9 a.m. ceremony at Center Cemetery to honor military graves, continuing to all cemeteries in town. At 12:30 p.m., a brief Naval Ceremony takes place at the Montowese Street (Hubbard) Bridge; with those participating then marching to join Veterans Day Ceremonies at the Cenotaph at 1 p.m.

The Veterans Day Parade route will lead South Main Street to Main Street and proceed along West Main Street to North Harbor Street, then south on North Harbor Street to Bradley Street and east on Bradley Street to Main Street, halting for 10 minutes. The parade will then continue east, passing the Review Stand and dignitaries on Main Street and continuing to end of the route on Montowese Street.

Marching units will include U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard, Second Company Governor's Footguard, Totoket Ancient Fife & Drum Corps, Stony Creek Fife & Drum Corps, Branford High School Band, Branford Town Band, St. Mary's School Fife & Drum Corps, military vehicles, emergency vehicles, Shoreline Antique Auto Club vehicles, and marchers representing military branches and town/state officials and guests, as well groups including Branford American Legion, Branford Veterans of Foreign Wars, Branford Lions, Knights of Columbus, Branford Elks, Take a Vet Fishing and local Scouting organizations.
