Members of the Guilford community are invited to offer their perspective on the proposed 0.7 mile paved bike and pedestrian path that would be Guilford’s first portion of the Shoreline Greenway Trail (SGT). The Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Greene Community Center.

The path could bring non-motorized traffic from the Madison border toward the town’s center as part of a yet-to-be determined east-west path from the Madison to the Branford border. The SGT is envisioned to eventually provide a safe path for non-motorized traffic between Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison and Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven.

Guilford’s proposal has run into substantial opposition from residents concerned about its impact on abutting property owners and the absence of an overall plan, which has not yet proven an obstacle to neighboring towns’ progress. East Haven, Branford, and Madison trail committees have built several portions of trail in their towns.
