Branford Police Nab Two in Dealership Theft

Arrested in Stolen Van -- Caught Stealing Tires, Rims

October 24, 2016: Branford Police caught two men, including a Branford resident, in a van stolen from Bridgeport which contained tires and rims taken from a vehicle at Brandfon Honda early Sunday morning.

The arrest took place after police received a video motion alarm at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, from the Brandfon Honda dealership, located at the intersection of West Main Street and Pent Road. At the same time, an alert motorist reported a suspicious van in the vicinity.

Patrol Officer Michael Loftis, later assisted by Officer Michael O'Connor, located the van nearby, in the vicinity of 1 Jefferson Road, with two occupants inside the vehicle. Police conducted a motor vehicle stop, determining the van had been reported stolen in Bridgeport.

Police found the van also contained three tire and rim assemblies, along with a number of hand tools and flashlights.

Officer Christopher Cope, who responded to the alarm at Brandfon's lot, located the vehicle from which the tires and rims had been removed.

Police arrested and took into custody Jose Pinto (DOB 8/11/1977) of 23 Hallock Street, New Haven and David Roldan (DOB 5/7/1975) of 470 East Main Street, Branford.

Pinto was charged with Larceny, 3rd Degree; Larceny 4th Degree; Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree; Criminal Trover 1st Degree; Possession of Burglary Tools and Misuse of Marker Plates.

Roldan was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3rd Degree; Larceny 4th Degree; Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree and Possession of Burglary Tools.

Both Roldan and Pinto were held on a $10,000 bond and were arraigned in New Haven Court Monday, Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
