Guilford Residents Go to the Polls on Nov. 8

Election season is finally in the home stretch. While the national race is still heating up, when Guilford residents go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 8, some of their choices may be a little easier.

Running for his second term, State Representative Sean Scanlon (D-98), representing Guilford and part of Branford, is running unopposed. In Hartford, Scanlon sits on the Public Health, Transportation, and Environment committees.

Also running unopposed is State Representative Vincent Candelora (R-86), representing northern Guilford, Durham, North Branford, and Wallingford. Currently serving as the deputy Republican leader, Candelora also sits on the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding, Judiciary, Public Health, and Regulations Review committees.

On the ballot this November, in addition to Scanlon and Candelora, Guilford residents will also be asked to vote on a candidate for State Senate. Republican candidate Bruce Wilson of Madison will challenge Democratic incumbent Ted Kennedy, Jr., for the 12th District State Senate seat, representing Madison, Killingworth, Branford, North Branford, Durham, and Guilford.

In the coming weeks, the Courier will publish profiles on each of the candidates for the State Legislature. Those candidates have been invited to participate in our online voter guide, providing background on their qualifications and answering questions of specific interest to the shoreline community. Readers can find information from the participating candidates at Zip06.com/elections.

Information on polling places and voter registration can be found online on the Town of Guilford Registrar of Voters page www.ci.guilford.ct.us/registrar-voters.htm.
