The employees of Essex Financial Services have raised $2,615 to send a Deep River resident, Zach Kirla, 12, to Camp Rising Sun. The camp welcomes any child aged 5 to 17 who has faced a diagnosis of cancer to a week of fun and friendship. Campers can be in treatment, in remission, or anywhere in between. Camp is held in Colebrook at the facilities of Camp Jewell, a YMCA campground. Camp Rising Sun is 100 percent funded by donations.

“We felt it important to give back to help a child in our community,” said Ron Nelson, chief financial officer of Essex Financial Services.

Essex Financial Services recently welcomed Kirla and his family to its office to present the gift. Melissa Pandolfi, who works with Camp Rising Sun, was also present.
