The public is invited to a ribbon cutting and open house at Clinton’s new Morgan School on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. The celebration will begin at the high school’s east entrance at 71 Killingworth Turnpike.

Gerry Vece, chairman of the Morgan Building Committee, says he looks forward to having the community see the finished school. The town broke ground on the new high school 22 months ago, in October 2014.

Drought and high heat this summer have been problematic for landscaping on the new campus. Plans are in place to reseed in the fall and install sod on the front lawn in time for the school’s grand opening.

“The committee has done the best job possible to build a first-rate facility that the town can be proud of,” said Vece, adding that the building was constructed under budget and on time.

“We’re hoping everyone will come to enjoy this very special day.”

The agenda is as follows:

2 p.m. Welcome by Morgan Building Committee Chairman Gerry Vece

Pledge of Allegiance led by Burton Caldwell, Student Body President, 2017

National Anthem sung by Alyssa Robinson, 2017

Benediction by Rev. Christopher Horvath, First Church of Christ Congregational

Distinguished guests include First Selectman Bruce Farmer, Board of Education Chairman Annaliese Spaziano, Superintendent of Schools Maryann O’Donnell, The Morgan School Principal Keri Hagness, retired superintendent of schools Jack Cross, and former first selectman Willie Fritz, Jr.

Deb Grass, Jane Scully Welch, and Keith Dauer will present the Time Capsule.
