Academic and Extracurricular Achievements
• Chester Village West Foundation Scholarship Recipients: Kristine Davis of Deep River, Jordan Saintil of Ivoryton, and Leah Sopneski of Deep River.
• Carmen Clarkin of Ivoryton, the daughter of Craig and Crystal Clarkin, was presented with the 2016 Sr. Antonine Signorelli, ASCJ Excelsior Award at Sacred Heart Academy’s Honors Convocation.
• Lieutenant Martin A. Collier, the son of Dulari and William Collier of Ivoryton, graduated with a medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Collier recently began his residency in orthopedic surgery at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego.
• Emmanuel College Graduates: Allyson Preble of Chester (BFA in graphic design and technology), and Meredith Whaley of Deep River (BA in sociology).
• Essex Garden Club 2016 Scholarship Recipients: Annie Brown of Essex, and Corey Thomas of Ivoryton.
• Emily Hayward of Chester received the Secondary Education & Educational Technology Department award from SUNY Oneonta.
• Jonny Leffingwell received the award “Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor” for Valley Regional Musical Production’s The Addams Family.
• Mark Malcarne of Deep River was recently sustained as part of a three-man stake presidency of the newly created New London Connecticut Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
• Scott Manierre of Chester recently completed a global field course to Costa Rica. Manierre is a biology major.
• The New Friends of Essex Library Board: Genie Devine (secretary), Jo Kelly (president), Judy Taylor (member at large), Catharine Wagner (member at large), Susan Hosack (member at large), Pat Mather (treasurer), Judy Fish (Ivoryton Library liaison), and Peggy Tuttle (book sales coordinator).
• Sophie Park of Essex received The Mount Holyoke College Book Award at Sacred Heart Academy’s Honors Convocation.
• Lyle Pitman of Centerbrook was named a winner of the CHET Dream Big! Competition.
• The Rotary Club of Essex Scholarship Recipients: Annie Brown, Kaleigh Caulfield, and Tina Mitchell.
• University of Vermont Graduates: Anna Marie Carlson of Deep River (BS in professional nursing, magna cum laude), Edward Liggett of Deep River (BA in sociology), and Maggie McCarthy of Chester (BS in communication science & disorders).
• Abigail Wolff of Essex, the daughter of Karen and Robert Wolff, was inducted into the National Academic Honor Society for Freshmen at the University of Connecticut. Wolff is a pre-pharmacy major.
