Summerfest Comes to Henry Carter Hull Library

The Henry Carter Hull Library hosts its first-ever Summerfest on Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Summerfest is free and open to the public, and activities include a book sale; live music; a live radio broadcast and auditions for new announcers; a dunk tank with local luminaries; face painting, an obstacle course, crafts, and other activities for kids; and Hardcore Sweet Custom Cupcakes truck selling cupcakes all day.

“We’re really excited to share our event with the shoreline community,” said HCH Adult Programming Librarian Elizabeth Tucker. “The idea for Summerfest is simply to create a day where everyone can come to the library and hang out—something like an open house. The timing is especially appropriate, since summer reading is kicking off for kids and teens, and we’ll be able to show off our great roster of summer events for library patrons of all ages.”

Although admission is free, Summerfest is partly a fundraiser, Tucker said, “in that we will be hosting a giant book sale beginning the day before—Friday, June 24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—and continuing through Saturday.” Most books are 50 cents; like-new hardcovers are $2.

In addition, Teen Librarian Cathleen Cole has organized a dunk tank fundraiser at which teens and local celebrities—like the Morgan girls’ lacrosse team, Morgan junior class officers, Clinton Police Detective Bryan Pellegrini and Officer Joseph Popovich, Morgan English and film studies teacher Eric Bergman, and boys’ lacrosse coach Brendan Hylan—will be dunked for $1 per ball.

“All proceeds benefit library programs throughout the year, like our Oscar Shorts, Christmas in Clinton Kickoff, movie screenings, tech programs, teen craft programs, children’s music programs, and more,” Tucker said. “The main goal of Summerfest, however, is simply to have people come to the library and enjoy a beautiful summer day. iCRV Radio will be broadcasting from their Tiny House all day and holding open auditions for a new announcer. Starting at 1:30 [p.m.], The Engine Room will perform live music, and we invite people to bring chairs and a picnic lunch to enjoy on our lawn while they watch the band.”
