Clinton the 9th Stop in WFSB’s 20 Towns in Twenty Days

On May 10, WFSB meteorologist Mark Dixon and Channel 3 Eyewitness News anchor Mark Zinni spent the day in Clinton as part of the station’s 20 Towns in Twenty Days campaign. The extended road trip, which kicked off April 28, showcases the people, businesses, culture, and stories that make up Connecticut’s cities and towns.

Each town on the list receives a $1,000 charitable donation from WFSB’s community outreach program, 3Cares, for a specific organization in town, as well as a $500 gift card courtesy of electronics and appliance store P.C. Richard & Son.

Clinton was the ninth stop on the itinerary.

Thanks to tips from Facebook users, Zinni started his morning at the 60-year-old Beach Donut Shop before heading downtown and into the marina district, paying a visit to Lobster Landing and other of Clinton’s iconic destinations.

Although many people think of Clinton as outlets shopping, it’s much more than that, Zinni told viewers.

“What is so special about Clinton? There’s a lot,” he said, noting its town dock, town beach, historic homes, restaurants, and bragging rights to being the birthplace of Yale, where the Ivy League school’s first classes were conducted.

In a live broadcast behind Andrews Memorial Town Hall, Dixon gave the weather forecast from the front seat of a Clinton Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) rescue truck. He then presented Deputy Chief Michael Neff and CVFD Public Information Officer Kris Struzinski with a $1,000 check and a $500 P.C. Richard & Son gift card.

“I can’t express enough gratitude,” said Neff, saying the donation would help pay for firefighter education, equipment, and training.

Established in 1911, CVFD has a crew of 123 individuals in fire, EMS, and related services. Several were on hand to celebrate the check presentation and television broadcast.
