The flour dust has settled following another hugely successful Pizza Wars, with the "Golden Pizza Cutter" award going to Tony Z's Apizza.

A hungry crowd of 200 decided the night's top cheese slice after sampling from seven competitors, said North Branford Senior Program Coordinator and Pizza Wars organizer Kerry Haynes. The friendly competition helped to raise funds for Senior programs.

Haynes thanked each of the pizza restaurants who willingly provided their best pies to help the cause on April 26.  The contest included North Branford and Northford restaurants Tony Z's Apizza, Anthony John's Pizzeria, Giovanni's Pizzeria & Ristorante, LaMonaco's Pizza & Pasta, Louie's Slice Pizzeria, Pacileo's Apizza & Pasta and The Fire Pizza Company.

"We couldn't have done it without the collaboration of the pizza restaurants and local businessess, the support of the volunteers and the generous donation of space from Mike Auger, Food Service Manager for North Branford Public School," said Haynes.

Established in 2010, pizza war winner's bragging rights have been shared among several of the town's best, including several competing on April 26 (Tony Z's was also named 2015 champ).

Having each winner's named engraved on the commerative "Golden Pizza Cutter" plaque, to hang in the town's senior/community center, is a new honor added this year.

"Past and current winners will have their names engraved on the 'Golden Pizza Cutter' plaque that will be hung for all to see at the Stanley T. Williams Community Center," said Haynes.

During this year's contest at Totoket Valley Elementary School, pizza lovers were asked to pick the top three pies. Second place went to Pacileo's Apizza & Pasta and third place to Louie's Slice Pizzeria.

"The evening also included dessert and coffee offered by Pastry Fusions, a raffle of wonderful items donated from local businesses and a photo booth by James Harriott of Neckbones Photography for guests to take home a memento of the evening's fun," said Haynes, adding, "It was a fantastic event that exceeded expectations. We can hardly wait for next year!"
