Bfd Resident Reports Burglary; Charged for Drugs Found in Home

A Branford resident who called police April 9 to report a burglary to his apartment was arrested on drug charges by officers responding to the call. Police found marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms, hash oil, drug paraphernalia, a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine and $3,900 in cash in the East Main Street home.

The following details were released by Branford Police Department:

April 11, 2016: Taylor Sapiente 22, (DOB 12/27/1993) of 675 East Main St., Apt. 2B, Branford, was arrested Saturday, April 9, just after 8:30 p.m. when he called police to report a burglary to his apartment.

Sergeant Philip Ramey said that when Officer Mathew Clerkin arrived at Sapiente's home to investigate his burglary complaint, Officer Clerkin was alerted to the overwhelming smell of marijuana emanating from the apartment. Because of the smell, Sapiente was detained while officers and detectives applied for Search and Seizure Warrant to search Sapiente's home.

"As a result of the execution of the Search Warrant, Officers and Detectives seized marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms, hash oil, drug paraphernalia, a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine and $3,900 in cash." said Sergeant Ramey.

Sapiente was charged with Sale or Possession of  Narcotics with Intent to Sell; Sale or Possession of Marijuana; Operating a Drug Factory; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Sapiente was held on a $50,000 bond. He  is scheduled to appear in New Haven Court today at 10 a.m.
