Skateboarding Dog Charms Residents in Madison

Madison celebrity Harley Rose, a female English bulldog, cruises around town on her skateboard.

She is short, furry, and has four legs, but she may be Madison’s coolest resident. Often spotted rolling through Madison, Harley Rose, a five-year-old English bulldog, is a skateboarding expert and she is quickly charming everyone in town.

Harley’s owners, Dawn Poker and Chris Abely, said she learned to skateboard when she was less than one year old.

“Chris’s daughter Mackenzie originally taught her by just playing with the board and Harley pushing and trying to jump on,” said Poker. “The rest is history.”

Her passion for skateboarding is clear to anyone who sees her. Poker says Harley lives for skateboarding.

“Unless we are prepared to take her out, we don’t dare say the word ‘skateboard’ around her,” she said.

And weather is no deterrent for Harley.

“She skateboards every day, two or three times a day regardless of the weather, rain, wind, cold, sunshine—the only thing that prevents her from boarding is the snow,” said Poker.

While Harley has plenty of fun skateboarding, Poker said she is happy people in town enjoy her passion, too.

“She is a big hit in town and she brings much love and joy to those who see and know her,” she said.
