Branford's Coastal Resilience: Survey Now; Meeting Feb. 23

If your neighborhood or business is vulnerable to tidal flooding, storm surges, sea level rise or coastal erosion, your input is needed for Branford's Coastal Resiliency Plan. This stormy scene from January shows seas hitting Limewood Avenue in Indian Neck.Pam Johnson/The Sound

Re-opening roads, making your home livable, restoring water service, restoring telecommunications -- after a coastal storm, which fix ranks at the top of your list?

Those are some of the questions which need answering to help bolster a pro-active Branford plan for coastal resilience. Right now, Town Engineer Janice Plaziak is asking residents and business owners to go online and complete a Branford Coastal Resilience Survey at http://svy.mk/1ooGQEE%20%20

Plaziak's also hoping many residents and business owners will also consider attending the second part of a public information session and workshop on Feb. 23, 7 p.m. at Branford Fire Headquarters. Her department has issued the following notice:

Notice of Coastal Resilience Plan Public Meeting:   The Town of Branford invites members of the public to the second informational meeting and workshop toward development of a townwide "Coastal Resilience Plan." The meeting will be on Tues. Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at Branford Fire Headquarters, 45 North Main St.

At the initial meeting held in Nov. 2015, residents and business owners in Branford discussed types of coastal hazards the Town will face in the future. At this meeting, residents and business owners in Branford will learn about the available methods of adapting to our changing coastal environment to become more resilient to tidal flooding, storm surges, sea level rise and coastal erosion.  During the workshop portion of the meeting, attendees will be invited to help identify the vulnerabilities in their neighborhoods and types of solutions that may be most effective in making them more resilient.

The Coastal Resilience Plan will develop options for adapting to coastal risks over the long term, with an emphasis on protection of people, buildings and the Town's infrastructure.

As part of the public outreach for this plan, a survey is available on the Engineering Department page of the Town's website, http://www.branford-ct.gov/engineering%20

The public is encouraged to complete this survey and attend the meeting. The presentation for the meeting on Feb. 23 will be posted on the Engineering Department page of the website no later than Fri. Feb. 19.
