02/03/2016 11:01 PMVIBE, Daniel Hand High School’s competitive show choir, was declared the Grand Champion of the Mill City Show Choir Festival at the first competition of the season on Jan. 16 in Lowell, Massachusetts. In addition to receiving the trophy for Grand Champion, VIBE swept the competition with a total of five first-place awards.
Junior Nina Stathakis won over the judges with her improvised vocals, and took home the Best Female Soloist award. With his commanding stage presence and spot-on pitch, senior Cooper Ewald was awarded Best Male Soloist. VIBE also took home the awards for Best Vocals and Best Choreography.
The group hopes to compete at FAME Nationals Finals in Chicago in April. Its next competition will be on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Central Mass Show Choir Festival at Shepard Hill High School in Dudley, Massachusetts.
