$76K Bonding Pending for Hammer Field Playground, Phase II

Jan. 25, 2016: State Representative Lonnie Reed (D, District 102) is announcing that, pending State Bond Commission approval on Jan. 29, the Town of Branford will be awarded a grant-in-aid of $76,000 for renovations and improvements to the Hammer Field Community Playground.

The new playground, Phase Two, will serve babies and toddlers - birth to five- and will also be accessible to children with disabilities.

"I am very pleased the state Bond Commission is set to approve this critically needed funding for the Hammer Field Community Playground in Branford," Rep. Reed said. "Working to secure this grant will help enable us to revitalize Hammer Field by creating a safe and healthy outdoor space for all children to utilize and enjoy. The neighborhoods surrounding Hammer Field are home to many young families and an abundance of grandparents who help take care of grandchildren while their parents are at work. The Hammer Field playgrounds provide an invaluable, easy to access recreational resource."

Rep. Reed thanked Governor Dannell P. Malloy for placing the item on the Bond Commission's agenda for action.The State Bond Commission will meet on Fri., Jan. 29 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 1E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
