East Haven XPect Discounts Closing Likely to be in March

Fans of Xpect Discounts better flock to the Frontage Road store now as the clock is ticking toward its closing.

Town officials have confirmed that the parent company has told East Haven Xpect employees that its final closing date will be sometime in March.

State law requires that store employees be given several months notice of large store/plant closings.

That notice was given to Xpect employees, town officials said, at the end of 2015, meaning the store closing is going to be near the end of the first quarter of 2016—or the end of March.

East Haven officials, who last year when it was first reported that the store would be closing said they were working on lining up a replacement retailer, said this week they’ve yet to find a new tenant for the location.

Officials of Xpect Discount’s corporate parent, Parma, Ohio-based March Glassman, Inc., didn’t return calls or emails seeking comment on the definitive closing date for the popular discount shopping store in East Haven.

Xpect Discounts has been closing a number of its store over the past several years. The chain’s North Haven store, which was on Universal Drive, closed in July 2013, putting 67 people out of work. Before that, Xpect closed its Derby location in April 2012, which put 58 people out of work.

It couldn’t be determined how many employees work at the East Haven store.

In March 2015, the retailer closed pharmacies at its Milford and Cromwell stores.
