Suspect Arrested for Robbery at Stop and Shop in Old Saybrook

Old Saybrook Police have arrested a man who reportedly shoplifted over $200 worth of razor blades and lighters from Stop and Shop before threating a security guard with a knife.

According to police Barry Marchinkoski, 49, homeless from the Middletown area, was reported by Stop and Shop security on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 9:06 p.m. Marchinkoski was allegedly attempting to steal razor blades and lighters valued at over $219. Marchinoski pulled a knife on a security guard in the store's parking lot before fleeing on foot through the shopping center.

Police responded to the area and located Marchinkoski in the Walmart area of the shopping center. Security identified Marchinkoski as the suspect, and he was arrested without incident. Police recovered the knife in his pants pocket along with heroin, suboxone, and needles.

No one was injured in the incident.
