A Branford family has been displaced following a fire in their Harding Avenue home on Dec. 22.

Branford Fire Department responded to the late afternoon alarm at 39 Harding Ave. and extinguished a basement fire. The fire was reported just after 5 p.m. and caused significant smoke damage to the home just days before Christmas, displacing a family of four. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Branford Fire Marshal Shaun Heffernan.

According to the fire department, no injuries were reported and the Red Cross is assisting the family. However, friends are also stepping up to help, including a GoFundMe page set up today at https://www.gofundme.com/fke56g

The page was established by family friend, Peter Flynn, who writes,"My good friends the Kelly family lost everything to house fire 12/22/15. They can really use our help. Please let's show the holiday spirit and help this family out. They have nothing, everything is gone. The only good that came of this tragedy is everyone is safe."
