The Right "Stuff": BHS Assists Branford Food Pantry

Branford High School (BHS) Principal Lee Panagoulias is losing ground in a battle to keep food donations from piling up in his office, and he couldn't be happier.

Two weeks ago, Panagoulias issued a challenge to BHS students, clubs, classes and athletic teams to do their part for the community -- and take on a friendly contest vs. Guilford High School and Daniel Hand High School (Madison) -- to see which school could gather the most non-perishable food donations.

All of the BHS contributions are slated to be delivered to Branford Food Pantry on Nov. 24, just in time to help contribute to the Pantry's Thanksgiving holiday meal baskets. The donations will also support the Pantry's ongoing food service program as well as those of Community Dining Room, also located in Branford.

"Two years ago, we stuffed my office with over 5,000 pounds of food, and this year we hope to surpass that amount," Panagoulias said, when launching the challenge this year. "I am calling on all advisories, clubs, sports, and booster clubs, to stuff my office with non-perishable food items before we leave for Thanksgiving break. We are asking everyone to help and take part in this Branford High School community effort."
