11/23/2015 11:00 PMIt’s taken some time, but the former Clintonville Manor in North Haven will soon be occupied.
The Maplewood Senior Living facility, a Westport-based firm that operates six senior living facilities in Connecticut, recently received approval by the Planning & Zoning Commission as well as the Inland Wetland Commission to open a facility at the site.
Pleased about the news, First Selectman Mike Freda said, “We listened to residents’ concerns in the past and embarked on this Maplewood project that will be a brand new 90-unit assisted living facility for seniors.
“There will be a medical component built into this facility with nurses and medical staff,” Freda said. “The concept is designed for the seniors who require assisted living facility to live somewhat independently in the complex.”
Speaking about the amenities, Freda said, “There will be a great deal of resources, such as three meals a day, a recreation center, ballroom dancing, and more. It will be wonderful for the seniors, and for the town to have this beautiful facility.”
Freda noted, “I visited the Maplewood facility in another town and was so impressed with the quality of the facility. There was a workout room, facility, a community type space.”
Maplewood’s new facility in North Haven will also house a special section dedicated to memory care units for residents suffering from dementia.
Maplewood attorney Bernard Pellegrino recently opened a town public hearing on the matter, and reassured North Haven residents concerned about the facility’s size and resulting traffic that the facility will restrict itself to a maximum of two stories and 90 units.
Maplewood architect Michael Stein said at the hearing that the 58 parking spaces planned was more than sufficient to accommodate its mostly non-driving residents.
According to Stein, the spaces provided will also be used to accommodate a 22-member staff, as well as visitors to the facility, while providing transportation to its residents.
The facility will also include an examination room on the first floor, a library on both of the two floors, a wellness center, a spa, and a gourmet food display kitchen area that will offer farm-to-table cuisine.
For the luxury retirement accommodations, residents will pay between $3,500 to $8,000 a month, depending on the type of care needed.
“The first step will be a deconstruction of the old Clintonville Manor by early spring, then by late spring the Maplewood construction would begin,” Freda said, with construction estimated to last one year.
