‘Shop Local, Love Local’ Initiative Unveiled in Old Saybrook

The Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce announces Shop Local, Love Local, an initiative to encourage shopping at independent businesses in the community. The campaign is timed to kick off with the annual Old Saybrook Winter Stroll, the traditional start to the holiday shopping season in Old Saybrook, to be held Friday, Dec. 4 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“We’re advocating that people first think about shopping locally before either going online or to the mall, because those dollars spent locally help to keep jobs here, help to keep profits here, and ultimately help keep our community vibrant,” said Chamber Executive Director Judy Sullivan.

Independent merchant Michael Hoinsky of Swag added, “The perception most people have is that shopping local is less convenient and more expensive than, say, shopping online. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

To help promote the Shop Local campaign, the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce has created an eye-catching graphic poster, designed by graphic artist and illustrator Natalie Cardone of East Haddam. These posters are being displayed in shop windows in Old Saybrook and at member businesses and organizations across the community as a way of raising awareness for Shop Local, Love Local.
