Breaking Ground at 66 High Street in Guilford

Members of The Horton Group and William Pitt Sotheby's International Realty are joined by First Selectman Joe Mazza and Economic Development Commissioner Brian McGlone at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Construction is officially underway at 66 High Street, Guilford, after a short groundbreaking ceremony held on Oct. 13.

The development at 66 High Street will eventually include 57 condos priced between $740,000 and $1.1 million for a total of $56 million in listings, according to William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, which is handling the project.

Local community leaders and members of the construction team led by The Horton Group came together Oct. 13 to break ground and look at building plans. Economic Development Coordinator Brian McGlone was excited to see the project finally getting off the ground.

“Over the years there were developers who came in and had great interest in this property and then when they looked at it and they thought about it, they said there is to much potential risk here,” he said. “But then Kenny [Horton] and his team, local people with a lot of vision, resources, and commitment to improving the town, said, ‘Hey, we are open to taking this challenge on.’”

McGlone said communication between the town and The Horton Group, the main developer on the project, has helped move development along.

“There has always been healthy conversation, cooperation, and ultimately coming up with a final project that is planned and approved,” he said.

“This is a project that is long overdue and we are very happy that Kenny and his partners have decided to take this on and it is going to be a great addition to the town of Guilford, and I might add, to the tax base,” said First Selectman Joe Mazza. “That is something we are all happy about!”

Mazza pointed out that this project is a part of greater development and improvement in town.

“It is an exciting time for the town of Guilford,” he said. “We just dedicated the new high school, we are about to open up the Guilford Commons, and now this. Fifty or so units [will] bring 50 new families into town and enjoy this wonderful town of ours. Let’s get this project going.”

Kenny Horton of The Horton Group said he was ready to move forward.

“My wife said to me, ‘If you are going to build it, it has to be the most beautiful thing everybody has ever seen here in Guilford,’ so that is my promise,” he said. “We are ready get going.”
