Branford Public Schools bus schedules for 2015-16, when available, will be posted at http://www.branford.k12.ct.us/Photo by Pam Johnson

Branford goes back to school on Thursday, Aug. 27, with a full day of school. But hang on, kids – there are five weekdays off coming up in September.

The town's three public elementary schools (Tisko, Murphy and Sliney) will hold "Back to School" night on Thurs. Sept. 3, when parents can meet teachers and learn more about what's happening in the classroom. That's just ahead of Branford Public Schools' (BPS) first day off of the new school year: Mon. Sept. 7, in recognition of Labor Day.

Branford High School "Back to School" night is set for Thurs., Sept. 10, two days before a long weekend begins for all BPS students – with no school on  Mon. Sept. 14 (Rosh Hashanah) and no school on Tues. Sept. 15, which is a professional development day.

Walsh Intermediate School (WIS) will hold Back to School Night for grades five and seven on Thurs. Sept. 17. The following week, all BPS students will have a day off on Wed. Sept. 23, for Yom Kippur.  WIS completes its Back to School Nights on Thurs. Sept. 24, for grades six and eight.

First Student Inc. of Branford provides bus service for the town's schools. Branford's 2015-16 school bus schedules are not yet available, but will be posted on the BPS website at http://www.branford.k12.ct.us/ The site also includes links to websites for each of the town's schools, with information such as school start times and dismissals.

The potential last day of school is June 8, 2016. If BPS exceeds a planned ten weather or emergency day closings, additional days will be taken from spring recess, beginning April 11.
