Madison Democratic Slate Announced

The Madison Democratic party announced its slate for 2015 elections at a festive July 22 caucus at the Madison Surf Club. The party has put two-term Selectman Joan Walker in the race for the open first selectman seat.

In addition to Walker, the Democrats have nominated Al Goldberg and Scott Gyllensten for Board of Selectmen, Bennet Pudlin and Jason Ulstad for Board of Finance, Seth Klaskin and Katie Stein for Board of Education, Ned Moore for Zoning Board of Appeals, Pat Melady for Zoning Board of Appeals alternate, and Judy Friedman for Board of Assessment Appeals.

Goldberg, an incumbent selectman and former first selectman, introduced the Democratic Party’s first selectman candidate.

“Those of us on the Madison Democratic Town Committee know Joan as a loyal and active member of our group, those of us on the Board of Selectmen know Joan as a thoughtful, articulate consensus builder,” said Goldberg. “Joan is not a politician, rather she is a public servant. She does not seek the spotlight; she seeks the work.”

Walker said her desire to serve was one that “laid dormant for many years, until Deb Heinrich walked down my driveway, knocked on my door, and told me that she was running for state representative.” The resulting involvement in Henrich’s and Goldberg’s campaigns, she said, demonstrated for her a way to do good for others.

“I have always believed that no matter one’s personal circumstances, there are people that you can benefit, and that you have a responsibility to give of yourself to them,” she said.

“It is time for a change of leadership in Madison; the unresolved issues facing this community must be addressed with fresh thinking [and] fresh ideas,” said Walker. “We, your Democratic slate, will do just that.”
