Guilford Art Center Hosts Guilford High School Art Students

Hayne Bayless speaks to Guilford High School students at a recent trip to the Guilford Art Center.

The Guilford Art Center recently hosted students from Guilford High School (GHS) for a field trip to its gallery. The occasion was the exhibition Teapots, Vessels, Flagons, and Flasks, a national, juried show of pourable containers by contemporary American artists. The field trip was made possible by a grant from the Youth Advisory Group of the Guilford Foundation.

Students from GHS instructor Megan Cassidy’s Advanced Mixed Media and 3D Studio Portfolio classes viewed the exhibition with its juror, Hayne Bayless, a professional studio potter. Bayless discussed the pieces on display and provided information about working as a practicing artist. The project was designed for high school students to have a chance to view exhibits at their local art center, with an additional educational component by interacting with a participating artist, sharing their perspective on careers in the arts.

Teapots, Vessels, Flagons, and Flasks is on display through Sunday, July 19. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
