Madison Lions Club Supports Lifeline Medic Alert System

Don Williams (right), president of the Madison Lions Club, is shown presenting the club’s annual donation in support of the Lifeline Medic Alert System to Jennifer Cotter, Lifeline coordinator for Yale-New Haven Hospital. David Longobucco, director and historian for the club, looks on.

The Madison Lions have been supporting the Lifeline Medical Alert System with annual donations for the past 30 years. The donation was originally made to the Hospital of Saint Raphael, and now goes to Yale-New Haven Hospital since the merger of the two facilities. The prime mover in bringing this annual gift about was the late Dr. Anthony Fappiano, a pathologist at the Hospital of Saint Raphael and also a member of the Madison Lions Club. He made certain that the gift was budgeted and distributed every year, even personally delivering the check after his early retirement due to an illness in 1992. Dr. Fappiano died in early 2014, and the club voted to name the annual gift “The Anthony P. Fappiano Memorial Lifeline Gift” in his memory.

Lifeline is considered to be the premier medical alert system marketed. The gift from the Madison Lions is used by the hospital to purchase two units exclusively for needy Madison residents. There are presently 55 Lifeline Medical Alert Systems in use in Madison. Anyone desiring information on the Lifeline system may contact Jennifer Cotter at 203-789-3938 or by email at jennifer.cotter@ynhh.org.
