Town Reaches $55,000 Settlement In Civil Rights Case

Officials have reached a $55,000 settlement in a civil rights lawsuit brought by a New Haven woman against the town of East Haven and eight police officers.

The American Civil Liberties Union and East Haven announced the settlement Wednesday.

Dominique Cash claimed in the lawsuit filed by the ACLU that her constitutional rights were violated when she was removed from her car at gunpoint after a 2013 traffic stop. She was eight months pregnant at the time.

Police had said the owner of the vehicle she was driving was seen leaving the scene of the crime.

Cash says the settlement helps her "turn the page and move forward."

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. says it marks an end to a difficult chapter for the town's police department.
