04/23/2015 12:00 AMAmerican Idol voters have spoken and they've pushed Guilford resident Nick Fradiani through to the Top 5 on Wednesday, April 22. With his entry into the Top 5, Nick also will tour with American Idol Live this summer.
If local residents want to catch Nick on tour with his fellow Idol contestants, however, they may have to travel to New York, Massachusetts, or Rhode Island. The tour itinerary currently lacks a Connecticut date.
While Nick has locked up his spot on the summer tour, there are still four more episodes left before a winner is crowned on Wednesday, May 13. A complete list of tour dates is available at www.americanidol.com/tour .
The surviving five contestants each performed two songs on Wednesday night for the show's Arena Anthems theme. Nick's first selection was Harder to Breathe by Maroon 5. Celebrity judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban agreed that the song was a good choice for Nick.
"I think that that was really scary for the other people in the competition because you're one of those guys who's doing what we hoped," Connick, Jr. told Nick following the performance. "You're getting better every week, and that was terrific, and it was a really great song for you. That's the kind of music I hear you singing."
Nick returned to the stage later in the show to perform Rod Stewart's Maggie May and Urban commented on how Nick's stage presence has improved since the first episode.
"That's a good song for you. That's a really cool song, man," Urban said. " It's like you're really taking everything to heart. You're looking cool with the guitar."
Lopez agreed with Urban's critique and urged Nick to continue making each of his performances unique.
"It's about making moments now that we're heading toward the finish line," Lopez said. "You don't want every performance to feel exactly the same."
