April Youth of Month: Lauren Cole


The Exchange Club of Madison has presented Lauren Cole, the daughter of Karen and Steven Cole, with the David Bell Scholarship Award for April 2015 Youth of the Month. The Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) senior was nominated by the DHHS faculty and completed a most competitive application including 1) an essay entitled “Investigating the Possibilities: Making the Community a Better Place to Live”; 2) performing outstanding DHHS and Community activities; 3) earning an excellent grade-point average; and 4) demonstrating personal achievements and earning awards.

Youth of the Month and Year Program chairman David Bell presented Cole with a $200 award and commemorative Madison Exchange Club plaque. She is a high honors student, member of the National Honor Society, DHHS marching and symphonic bands, a member of the Peer Advocates, and is a Peer Helper co-leader at the middle school.

Cole is also a member of Choices, Perspectives Life, Unified Basketball, and Unified Theater, and is captain of the DHHS lacrosse team, for which she has been selected as a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American 2014, All-State, ALL-SCC, SCC Player of the Year, and New Haven Register MVP 2014. Additionally, she was honored with the Sarah Tuxis Hero of the Year Award in 2010 and the Awareness in Health and Fitness Award in 2014.

Cole plans to continue her education next year at Fairfield University, at which she has earned a lacrosse scholarship.
